I’ve had good intentions of updating this blog more regularly with regard to our new home build however it’s been a very busy few months getting the house designed and built.  We are at the home stretch now and are at the point of flooring being installed and trim is about to start.  We are doing some extensive trimwork everywhere in the house so this will take awhile.  But all good things are worth waiting for!

Some highlights over the winter and spring months:

All ceilings have been raised to 9, 10 and even 12 feet in the new addition.  We’ve been able to do some really cool features because of this.  From coffered ceilings in the dining room, hallway and even laundry/mud room:

To sloped ceilings with skylights in the kitchen:

And vaulted ceilings in the family room (they will be lined in ship lap soon!). If you’re wondering why the insulation is green, it’s been spray foamed and is a more efficient way of insulating your home.  It’s more expensive than the pink fibreglass one, but down the road, it will pay for itself because it has a much better insulating value.

To the coolest ceilings of all in our master bedroom addition – they are 12 feet and will make the room appear even larger than it is.  I can’t wait to add the ceiling fixture to this room!

We’ve added some new windows such as this oval one at the front of the house which I think adds a nice architectural detail as well as adds more light to the front foyer:

We also installed our new front door which I’m in love with!  We got rid of the old steel door with the half moon transom above and replaced it with a wood door that extends to the top of the moulding with 2 side curved side lights.  Makes such a great statement from both the street and from inside the foyer!

And even some of the tile work has begun.  Here is the beautiful marble herringbone mosaic I chose for our powder room.  It’s going to look incredible with the navy vanity with gold accents I chose for this room:

And I love the tile for the laundry/mudroom room too.  It looks like worn painted hardwood flooring.  I cannot wait to see how this room will come together too!

Finally here are some progress pics of the new addition that was built above the garage.  We had to rebuild the garage from scratch because there were no footings originally and it had to be supported properly to sustain the new master bedroom above.  So pleased with our new curb appeal.  The scale of the new garage and second floor addition is perfect thanks to our architect Alison Strickland’s great attention to detail.

I will update again soon – next steps, siding which starts tomorrow, trimwork and shiplap, cabinetry for kitchen, bathrooms, laundry and mudroom, doors, painting and then I get to decorate!  We can’t wait to call this our new home.  Planning on a late June move-in…we are at the home stretch now and it feels great! 🙂
